The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Solid Waste Management (SWM) Landfill Engineering unit is responsible for the landfill closure, post-closure care, and end-use development of the 2,200-acre Fresh Kills Landfill (FKL) in Staten Island, NY. FKL consists of four landfill Sections (Section 2/8, 3/4, 6/7, and 1/9) and ancillary facilities, including the Leachate Treatment Plant and Flare Stations. The last phase of final cover construction was completed in 2021. Currently, FKL is operating under Post Closure Care and End Use development phases. The Landfill Engineering unit is seeking to hire a candidate to be part of team operation of Fresh Kills Landfill.
