Temporary Position – Up to 15 Months (Not to Exceed August 31, 2027) JOB OBJECTIVE: Under the direction of the Historian II and the Atlas Program Coordinator, the Archeological Report Processing Specialist performs routine (journey-level) document scanning and digitizing, compiles digitized reports, follows quality assurance and quality control procedures, uploads reports and abstracts to the Texas Archeological Sites Atlas (TASA), and ensures that scanned reports are correctly associated with the corresponding records. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may rely on direction from others to solve problems that are not standard and may routinely assist other staff in performing work of greater complexity. The Texas Historical Commission (THC) permits, reviews, and archives archeological survey reports conducted in accordance with the Antiquities Code of Texas and related state and federal regulations. One year of direct experience in the operation of digital imaging equipment, imaging software, document scanners, and reproduction equipment work. Proficiency using Adobe Acrobat software to create, edit, and review electronic documents. Proficiency using the Microsoft Office software suite, including Word and Excel. Proficiency in using web-based maps and geographic information systems to view and search records. One year of coursework at an accredited college or university with coursework in anthropology, archeology, history, business or public administration, library methods, or another relevant field. Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and ability to drive a state vehicle.
